Travel Adventures

Hello lovelies,

I have been wanting to share this little camping adventure for weeks now and life has just been a little overwhelming, anyone else feeling the same?

My husband took me up to Black Balsam at the beginning of the autumn season for a little overnight camping and it was absolutely glorious. The colors were JUST beginning to change and it was actually difficult finding a spot for the tent as the whole mountaintop was filled with other campers.

Black Balsam Knob is one of many beautiful hiking and camping spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Asheville area. To hike out to the Knob you actually walk along part of the Art Loeb Trail for about 1.4 miles. There are gorgeous 360 views of the surrounding mountains as you walk along this portion of the trail.

We arrived later than we planned to and it was already getting quite dark so we had to rush through setting up the tent and then getting a fire going. My husbands favorite part of camping is cooking over an open fire.

We packed in everything to make a little campfire stew, canned beans, ground beef, some chopped onion, lots of seasonings. It comes out a little different each time but it’s always so satisfying. Something about being cooked over a fire I guess.

It was such a gorgeous night, you could see so many stars, even with the city lights from Asheville far away. The next morning we got up early the next morning to see the sunrise

I am always amazed at how slowly the sun seems to creep up to sunrise, then all of a sudden it is so bright!

It is a little hard to see, but there the fall colors are JUST beginning in the trees!

Once it was light we hiked up just past where we had camped to Black Balsam Knob and got someone to take a photo! I had never been all the way up to the Knob before, I had only hiked other parts of the trail. What a view!!

Our next stop was some apple picking in Brevard and on the way down from the Parkway we made a little waterfall stop at Linville Falls and grabbed another photo!

I’ll share some of our apple picking next! Stay tuned ♡
